Getting around
The best way to get around the city is by using the extensive public transport network GVB, which includes metro, buses and trams as well as trains to the 7 train stations within Amsterdam.
There are two options for discounted travel in and around Amsterdam:
- For public transport only, the best option is an Amsterdam Travel Ticket, which will allow the ticket holder to travel on the train between Schiphol and Amsterdam and unlimited travel for all trams, day buses, night buses and metros. It costs 26 Euro for three days (16 Euro for 1 day, 21 Euro for 2 days).
- If you plan to visit a few museums, there is the I amsterdam city card, which entitles you to unlimited travel for 1, 2, 3, or 4 days on all trams, day buses, night buses and metro routes, as well as free or heavily discounted entry to top museums and canal trips, and discounts at restaurants and theaters and other venues. This pass costs 93 Euro for three days (60 Euro for 1 day, 80 Euro for 2 days and 105 Euro for 4 days).
You can also use the vast network of bicycle paths to get around the city. You can join the greatest Dutch pastime by renting bicycles at the train stations or at several bike shops around town such as Yellow bike or MacBike.
